The seventh generation Porsche 991 (2011-2019) featured a newly engineered platform, the third since the neunelfer ‘nine eleven”s debut in 1963. Although continuing the iconic 911 silhouette, Michael Mauer’s design was revolutionary for the series, featuring high-strength steel aluminium and composites to reduce weight. Alongside new styling, the new car range was a wide body, with a 100mm larger wheelbase and 70mm increase in length. The base Carrera 2’s were the only variants with a narrower body. The chassis included a new transaxle to allow for the rear wheels to be moved backwards in relation to the engine. As a result, power to weight distribution and cornering were vastly improved, creating a more refined driving experience.

The first phase 991.1 (2011-2016) was available in fastback coupe, Targa top, convertible, and speedster body styles. Since the 911’s inception, Porsche have demonstrated their ability to specialise in one product, alongside variants that showcase power, comfort, or handling. The various incarnations of the water-cooled, rear-engine 911 included Carrera and S, GT3, GTS, Turbo, Targa 4 and 4S, R, RS, and special editions, such as the 50th Anniversary and Club Coupe between 2014 and 2016. The second phase 991.2 was succeeded by the 992 in 2019.

Porsche began experimenting with turbocharging technology on their race cars in the late 1960s, with the aim to produce a homologation special to qualify the company for the Group 4 ‘silhouette racing’ formula. The resulting 911 Turbo had an impressive reputation for outstanding performance and acceleration, both on the racetrack and road. Demand for the turbo was high in the 1970s and has only increased since due to engineering advancements.

The 991.1 Turbo was introduced in late 2012 as an all-wheel drive, with a twin-turbocharged 3.8L flat-six engine generating 513hp and 457lb-ft of torque. When equipped with the improved Porsche Doppelkupplung ‘PDK’ dual-clutch transmission from the 997, the Turbo’s weight was reduced to 3,538lbs, with greater capacities and improved performance. Innovative technologies such as adaptive aerodynamics and rear wheel steering were standard.

The car is an upgraded Turbo, featuring the coveted, optional Sport Chrono package which offers engine, transmission, and chassis enhancements to improve the car’s performance and driving experience. The package includes an attractive yellow analog clock that is aligned with the navigation system to record lap times and total driving time. As a PDK model, there is a Sport and Sport Plus button to activate different engine and transmission dynamics, making the throttle pedal more responsive without losing power. A very low mileage example at just 17,000 miles since 2014.
