Only the third entirely new platform since the original 911 launched, the 991 launched in 2011 as a replacement for the 997 generation. The 991 was slightly larger overall, the wheel base was increased by 100mm and the overall length by 70mm. A newly developed trans axel allowed the rear wheels to be moved 76mm back from the engine which served to significantly improve the weight distribution and therefore cornering performance. Use of high strength steel, aluminium and composites reduced the curbweight to 1,380kg. The updates and weight reductions make the 991 generation vehicles lively and refreshing to drive.

The 991 Carrera GTS was introduced in 2014 to sit between the Carrera S and GT3. It has an increased power output of 424hp, 10mm lower suspension, Sport Chrono Package, Sport Exhaust, Dynamic Engine Mounts, PTV system, PDLS LED daytime running lights, sport front spoiler and sport side design side mirrors, GTS badging and 20” centrelock wheels.
